Value One’s Service

October 29th, 2007 · 1 Comment

“But I’m not one of them. I don’t expect anyone to work for me at cost.” –Hank Reardon, Atlas Shrugged

Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you were so intent on getting the lowest deal, you forgot about the individual helping you? Have you ever tipped one dollar less not because the service was terrible, but because you felt your deserved it more?

I ask you to consider the quote above. Hank Reardon is a self-made millionaire. His hard work, inventiveness, persistence and perseverance contribute to his success. Not penny pinching. He understands the great benefit in recognizing the person providing him the service. He understands jumping the line costs money.

He goes on to say …”Give me a chance to pay higher prices, higher prices than anyone else will offer, sock me anything you wish, just so I’ll be first to get the coal…”

Extra services are provided to loyal clients willing to pay for the services rendered.

If you have a restaurant you frequent often, it may behoove you to tip a few bucks extra. Car wash? Financial Advisors? Real Estate Agent?

Take care of the people that take care of you. Show them the importance of their services and you’ll quickly leap frog ahead of the masses, receiving better service and attention.

If you don’t feel their deserving of your extra money, then get a referral to someone worth your dollar.

I like what you are saying about service, but I, personally, would not have attributed that value to Hank Rearson. My interpretation of Hank Rearson is that he did not provide excellent, Platinum service to his clients. He did exactly as he pleased and expected the client to pay for it.
