Discomfort is Necessary

December 3rd, 2007 · 1 Comment

“As an adult we get set in our ways. There are very few new experiences to take on.”

Would you agree with this commentary? Has your life become somewhat disciplined and consistent? Are your days and weeks running together? Have you taken on any new challenges lately?

I have the pleasure of providing a platform for men and women of all ages to do just this. Completing a marathon. Raising thousands of dollars for blood cancers.

Running four plus hours is scary when you’ve never run a day in your life. Walking eight or nine hours is inconceivable when you’ve skipped out on all physical activities for the last forty years. Sending out letters asking your loved ones for money is uncomfortable.

Yet, by choice, hundreds of brave Santa Barbarans face these challenges each year. And four months from the day they sign-up, they are better human beings. They are more confident, more focused, more energized, and healthier. Their loved ones, employers, and society benefits.

What are you fearful of? What challenge awaits you? Your fears are something to be confronted and overcome. Grow yourself through a new challenge.

I believe we are all ambitious human beings deep down. We all have dreams. It is about believing in yourself to work towards those goals and dreams day by day. They will not all come true over night, but if you work hard enough and long enough at them, you will be amazed at what you can accomplish. Atleast I have in my life.
JEFF IS ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. Too many people get set in their ways and settle for less than what they are worth.
I think many people are afraid of FAILURE. I am not going to lie, it crosses my mind every now and then. However, if you never go after your dreams you will always wonder what might have been. See your vision. Set your goals. Build a strong network of people around you and let them know what you are working towards. When you feel like giving up or you get knocked down, those people will lift you to your feet and guide you on your path again.
Exercising along the way is crucial.
As Bochsler stated, it will leave you feeling more confident, more focused, more energized, and healthier. :)
Now get out there and face your challenges.
