Yesterday I walked out of my place in a hurry to get to work. I had slung my backpack filled with workout gear over my left shoulder. My left hand clutched my briefcase, and my right hand carried a bin of overflowing garbage.
No more than twenty yards from my front door, an empty water bottle rolled off the top of the bin I carried. A laundry sheet followed, then a shredded envelope. I set my briefcase on the ground, and I’m suddenly trying to maintain the balance of my backpack on my shoulder, while using my available left hand to catch the falling garbage. The briefcase on the ground topples over. A few more scraps fall.
Frustration sets in.
I realize the problem: I’m impatiently trying to be efficient with my time.
Breathe… Think…
I set my backpack and waste bin next to the sad briefcase and pick up the escaped trash, methodically filling the waste bin with the clutter.
Backpack back on, this time I use both straps (nerdy I know, but much more efficient). Briefcase next: I carry it in my left hand and pick up the compacted waste bin in my right hand. Thirty care-free yards to the dumpster I dump the trash.
Done and Done.
Efficiency and Peace of mind were found to be in intentional planning.
Set yourself up for greatness. Plan your day…Before checking email or making phone calls. Then you’ll have a free hand for the things that might get away
Live and be well,
Jeff
