“Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.” - Teddy Roosevelt

Transformation of YOU-th
April 6th, 2008 · No Comments
Roughly 100 Santa Barbarans came together this evening to celebrate 3 courageous individuals’ and 2 committed married couples’ 12 week journey to lose pounds, while raising money for the health of our future, Partners for Fit Youth (addresses the growing childhood obesity epidemic).
It was a joyous event put on by local fitness and health company Conditioning Specialists. The overiding theme throughout: Transformation of body and self. The individuals getting trained, Nancy Patterson, Li-At Ruttenberg, and Grant McKee, repeated many times over their thankfulness for the training they received (5 or 6 days per week), the encouragement on a daily basis via phone calls, text messages, and smiling trainer faces, and most importantly their NEW, Energetic, Motivated, Lighter Selves! The trainers themselves proclaimed their unique, life changing experiences.

Defending One’s Resolution Part III: Short Term Memory Loss
April 2nd, 2008 · No Comments
We have our goal. We know where we want to be. We have the image in our mind. A better person. A stronger person. A smarter person. A more productive worker. We’ve even drawn up the game plan. However:
when the alarm clock goes off at 6am…
when we walk out the door after a stressful, tiring day of work…
when we turn off our cell phones to read a chapter or two before bed…
Our minds, our spirit, our body decide our earlier, rational moments of planning, preparing, dreaming don’t REALLY know what’s best.
